SPACE
(Seattle Performance Artists Cooperative Education)
Two Hours' Traffic recognizes how difficult it is for struggling artists to continue developing their art through education. The cost of day long workshops can be in the hundreds, month long intensives in the thousands, and higher education is in the tens of thousands. This is quite a feat for someone in a profession which is traditionally qualified by the adjective "starving." SPACE is an attempt to remedy this. The idea is that of a cooperative, yeah just like one of those health food stores, only instead of organic produce, we deal in performance education. You put in your knowledge, and you get back the knowledge of everyone else, free of charge.
Every summer we accept applications from performers of all kinds: singers, dancers, actors, clowns, musicians, etc. The requirement is that you have a skill you feel comfortable teaching to other people (We do reserve several slots for new artists who do not feel comfortable teaching). With your payment of knowledge, you are free to attend the workshops of other participants. This is a great opportunity for artforms to cross pollinate. Are you an actor that can't sing? Why not exchange some of those acting skills for some singing lessons? Maybe you're a dancer who wants to learn some mime. Now's your chance. We do our best to keep SPACE free of charge. Occasionally we are forced to charge a nominal fee to cover the cost of room rental. If you are interested in joining SPACE email us at info@twohourstraffic.org.
